Gong xi fa chai!! Sorry for the late post. An error occured and deleted my draft so I need to begin again from scratch. So its finally this time of the year again where family gathers and have some fun eating Chinese food together. Other than that this year is the year of the snake just for info.
What I like about Chinese new year is the tradition. Dragon dance and ang pao. In this day, when we meet our family member, we have to do a special gesture and says "giong hi". The gesture is simple. Just make a fist with your right hand and wrap it with your left hand. Wrapping it needs to be vertical and not horizontal. Meaning cover the whole fingers of your right hand except the thumb. Then shake :D. The person who receive this gesture will need to give you ang pao. This ang pao means to share our fortune with our family's net generation which is the child. The rule in giving ang pao is only the once that have undergo marriage can give ang pao, while for the people that is still single may receive.
Another tradition is the dragon dance or as we called it here barongsai. Other than entertaining, the dragon dance also gives us fortune. While they are dancing, they usually approaches us. What we should do is to give them ang pao. This time the ang pao given symbolize as badluck. It means that these dragons will take your badluck away and leaving you with goodluck. And the rest is just for entertainment. Its just fascinating just to see them dancing. Why is there two dragons you ask. Its because each dragon resembles different gender. I can't identify which one is the female and which one is the male, but they usually differentiate them from the color.
I hope you all had fun with your family on this wonderful day! Happy Chinese new year everyone and I wish you all will have a wonderful year filled with happiness and fortune. Lets celebrate!!
